I'm sure this has been discussed a thousand times over, but wondering what the expected lifetime mileage is for the E-450s.
We're about to go look at a 2003 26'er coming up on 85k miles and wondering what we might generally expect in the way of anticipating E-450 big ticket maintenance items - transmission, engine, driveshaft ... and TBD?

I don't know if this is typical but I just purchased a 2003 mid-bath with under 80,000 miles. These are the "safety issue" repairs I've made.
- 7 new tires
- Alighnment and additional suspension work (tie rods and bushings)
- Oil & Filter Change
- New fuel pump & filter (it was starting to stall intermittantly) and new hoses on the fuel tank (they were deteriorating)
- Resealed the roof which included installing new fans, vents, covers (even a new emergency hatch & cover) - this was done at Lazy Daze
- This particular LD had a new engine installed around 75K due to an issue with the catalytic converter (before I purchased it)
- Rear camera installed
I've had other upgrades that weren't safety issues.

Now how did I know what your answer would be?
Had my roof vents resealed recently, I was told that the fixture I had purchased in case it might be needed was not the right brand. Boss Man says: "Only normal stock (Fantastic) was to be used when replacement is needed."
I still have five (5) of my SOB fans in place, including one replacement. ;) ;D
The original post is one of interest to me as well, and wonder if there is a list of things to “look out for,” or to consider replacing at certain stages, miles or years of an LD’s lifetime. Thanks.

I am “Hopeful” because I don’t have a LD yet. However, I’ve worked 40 years in a company with everything from vans to tractor trailers. I would strongly advise paying the $$$ to have a mechanic look it over first. My Dad, and our work mechanic, changed the oil every 3000 miles no matter how much longer the manufacturer said it could go. I inherited my Dad’s p/u and the garage told me if I took care of it like he did it would make 200,000 without breaking a sweat. Your engine with 80,000 is preferable to one with less mileage not being lubricated, rust settling in, and so forth.
In much the same way, if they towed and what, etc., could affect the life of your transmission. So many factors involved. I would hope someone making the investment for a new LD also cared enough to maintain it properly, but it’s not a given.
