Title: Rear camera
Post by: Virtue on July 21, 2019, 05:11:58 pm
I am buying a used LD and would like to add a rear camera.  Any suggestions on make and what I should expect to pay to have it installed.  Thanks

Too many options for a good answer.
Wired or wireless?
Console, rear view mirror or sun visor mount?
Position of camera? Inside the rear window, on the license plate or, preferably mounted high on the rear, over the window, for the best view.
Is it only to be on when in reverse or any time at will? Our camera is left on all the time, when driving, it's works better than the rear view mirror and keeps the toad in view.
DIY or installed at an RV shop.
Prices can be from less than $200 for a DIY cheap wireless camera to over $1200 for a wired, high mounted camera with a console mount.
The Mothership charges around $1200 for the camera option, AFAIK, they do not do aftermarket installations.

The Mothership option is wired, correct?

Yes, the Factory camera is hardwired.

I just had a rear camera installed on my 2003 Midbath. Vince at Lazy Daze told me not to put it on the roof because there was no bracing for it and it was almost guaranteed to leak. He had me put it on top of the faux spare tire cove. I used the Haloview (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GKXPKRS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) wireless camera. I had mine installed at Best Buy in Riverside, CA for $80.

Can it see over the tow'd from there?  Mine is over this rear window and originally pointed to the trailer hitch.  I turned it up a bit and can see the tow'd and traffic behind me.

It's not in it's final position yet. I take my driving class and tow my Jeep for the first time in Friday. I'll make. the final adjustments then.
