Just returned from a trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton and as I pulled into my driveway there was steam coming from under vehicle. Transmission fluid is leaking out of rubber plug on torque converter onto exhaust pipe which made the steam. I'm thinking torque converter seal has failed and I'm thinking big bucks to fix. Anyone had this repair done? How much did it cost?
Could be front transmission seal or rear crakshaft seal.
had an oil pressure sending unit on a chevy 350 show up there too.
If fluid is coming from the rubber plug, most likely the front seal has failed.
The repair isn't to hard to do....once the transmission has been removed.
Tough to do at home, easy for a transmission shop to do with a lift and a tall transmission jack.
I will not guess at the cost, other than it will be several hundred dollars.
How many miles on the transmission? Any other issues with it?

Tranny has 75k on it and shifts great. Local repair shop agrees with your assessment and says around $700.00 to fix. Just glad the seal failed in my driveway and not on the road.
