My Lazy Daze got two new Fan-Tastic fans less than a year ago, one of them bi-directional with three speeds and thermostat, installed in the living room. It works but it is very noisy. I measured the noise level with two different apps on my iPhone and my iPad, and they all show a noise level around 55 dba when measured from the couches. That is loud. When I have the AC and the fan on I hear the fan and almost nothing from the AC.
What I find interesting is that Dometic (who owns the Fan-Tastic brand) markets their fans as being "quiet" but does not give any specifics. Any cheap AC that you can buy at Home Depot or Walmart comes with information about the dba level - but this not so cheap, rather simple fan does not. I am wondering whether this means that they are so cheaply made that their quality differs a lot (and that I got a "bad" one).
Did anybody here ever measured the noise level of their fans? What are you in general thinking about the noise level of these fans? Can you sleep at night below such a fan without ear plugs?
I recently installed a Max-Aire fan and also have a factory installed Fantastic fan. The Max-Aire is less than half the noise. In fact at medium speed it can just begin to be heard.
Fantastic Fans changed motor design several years ago, going from the canister-type (think soup can) to a pancake motor.
The canister motors are much quieter. They will not work correctly with the wireless remote upgrade, which requires the pancake motor.
