Title: Standard TV Antenna
Post by: Tina Pratt on June 11, 2018, 02:46:21 pm
Wise Ones...on the last night of our most recent voyage the standard LD TV antenna handle broke off in the Captain's hands.  He was able to get the antenna down, but now is repair time.  Is this item (the white handle) a standard CW part or easily found on-line?

Sorry to ask for such simple information, but it appears from lifelong observations and interactions, I'm a simple person.

The cranks are available at larger RV stores or online.
There is a small pin, retaining the crank, that needs to be knocked out.

I suppose you could attack it with a hammer,  pry bar and screwdriver like some do. Or you could do research here, google or wikipedia.

I think the signal-to-noise ration on this board is much better than wikipedia or google.  Not to mention the quality of information and response is better.

Larry,

Tina only mentioned the handle crank but it's more than that.  The part that turns the antenna has sheared off as well as thw crank

Hi Bill. The elevation handle, the crank, (part # RP-5895) is held on with a 10-24 x 1/2" hex set screw. A 3/32 hex (Allen) key will loosen that. Removing that handle, spring and thin plastic washer, will allow you to remove the antenna rotation handle.
The antenna rotation knob, just slides on over the crank up shaft. (part# RP-6200). This knob engages the two splines on the gear housing shaft (part# RP-2049) .
So does the elevation handle (the crank) still raise and lower the antenna? It looks like that 10" long shaft has a universal joint in it to allow a little bend, with an outer spring to keep it aligned. Those are probably easy to break.
The RP-6200 rotation (they call it a handle in the picture) has it cracked open enough that you can't turn the gear box shaft, or has that gear housing shaft sheared off?  Was there damage on the roof, tree branch or something? to the mechanism. Was it hard to turn to deploy the antenna? Or just happened out of the blue.
Part numbers I used were for Ivory color, white parts numbers are different. Wish they would just use Wh or Iv at the end of the respective part numbers to cut down the confusion factor.    RonB
