Title: New Chevy Medium Duty Trucks
Post by: rm2011ldmb on March 07, 2018, 02:26:50 pm
Do you think the Mothership will be able/want to dust off the old plans for the medium duty GM chassis in order to build a newer LD on a Silverado/Navistar chassis with a much higher GVWR?

a call to them may be interesting...let us know what they say, maybe a survey here for backup would help?

my money is on "no"

It's my belief that when the E 450 is no longer available, the Mothership is probably closing.
It will be a sad day, but I haven't seen or heard of any new designs being planned for other chassis.
They should have already started the changeover if they were going to do it, at least that's how I feel.
I would love to have a new Lazy Daze on a Ford F550 chassis with 4wd as an option. The Dodge 5500 would be
an option as well with a Cummins diesel.

I can only hope and dream that they can continue with an updated chassis.

If one ends up asking Steve this question, I suggest holding the phone at a distance from one's ear.

That is the most likely outcome.
Steve has spent millions designing three larger LDs, only to have the chassis discontinued within a year after releasing the new design.
Look up the P-30, E550 and the Kodiak LDs.
I doubt he is up to doing it again physically or financially .
While building on a pickup chassis is fine, it does make for much longer overall length and a clumsy way of getting in and out of the coach, especially if built on a crew-cab truck .
There were several good reasons why originally LD picked a van to convert and not a pickup.
Probably the same reasons why so few RVs have been and are built today on pickups.
