Title: Truck Scales Experience
Post by: Ed & Margee on October 21, 2017, 06:01:01 pm
I remember reading that some folks stopped along the road at truck weigh stations.  So several days ago I saw an empty weigh station and pulled into it.  Asked if they'd weigh us.  They said sure and I pulled onto the scale.  LD had 1/2 tank of water and 1/4 tank for gray and black.  We had supplies for a week.  Subaru had full tank and some supplies.  We weighed at 16,420 pounds.

The people running the station seemed to enjoy our visit and request.  Btw, no charge.

That’s cool. What state? We have weighed on closed scales in WA and I have heard of people in OR doing so too.

Oregon by law leaves the scales on.     I have used the 'closed' truck scales many times.

What state?

These scales were in the great state of Oklahoma.

Another place where you can sometimes weigh for free (as long as you don't require a weight certificate) are feed and grain stores.  I got my old LD weighed years ago at the Templeton Feed & Grain in Templeton, CA.  They were very accomodating.

Our local co-op let us weigh free and so did the local trucking company.

I have had my camper, fifth wheel, and Lazy Daze weighed at the local moving company in our town.  They all have a truck scale and they will weigh you for $10 if you need a weight tag.  I tell them I just want to know what it weighs and there is typically no charge.  I tip the person who records my weight, usually $5 and we are all happy.
