Title: VIN Check
Post by: EdwardIAm on September 22, 2017, 09:24:24 am
Read an interesting article on the selling of flood damaged vehicles in light of the recent hurricanes.
Didn’t know this site existed.
It allows you to check the VIN of any vehicle to see if an insurance company reported it as stolen, salvaged, etc.

The different Carfax-like sites only list cars reported to an insurance company.
Many cars are dried and cleaned by their owners or body shops, never being listed by any agency.
A careful inspection of under the floor mats, the trunk and especially under the car can reveal moisture, old mold and floor debris.
A salt water damaged car will be nothing but trouble and there is little to be done about it.

IMHO all cars from Texas are guilty until proven innocent.    I'd do a very detail title search - if from Texas I'd move on.
