Title: Repairing clear coat on exterior paint
Post by: Robin B on July 17, 2017, 05:19:37 pm
We boondock mostly.  Unfortunately we have scrapes along the lower edge of exterior RV.  The bottom paint is the red anniversary edition.  I have used rubbing compound along with the First ..... wax on it.  Does anyone else have solutions to repairing the scrapes on the exterior?  I have not used a electric buffing system due to not wanting to go too deep.   Any suggestions?  Thanks for any responses.

There isn't a clear coat, the pigment goes all the way through the paint.
Your choices are to try buffing it out (maybe going through the paint), repainting the lower panel or living with it.
If you buff it, find a experience hand, it's easy for us amateurs to go to far, too fast
The lower fiberglass panels do not hold paint as well as the upper aluminum and show aging earlier.

My Jeep has hundreds of small, long scratches, it's called desert pin stripping.
LD has had a few too but they have come out using a random orbit buffing machine and 3M compound.
The Jeep is beyond hope.
