Hey all, I feel I've gotten a good handle on sealing all the basics and have my 99 pretty covered, except for this trim strip down around the lower skirt.
There are a few areas where screws are trying to backout, and a couple small spots of electrolysis just on the strip. Does anyone have any experience with this, or have had it off, or maybe an actual photo of what's behind it? Seems like some areas it's probably wicking in through the screws, but a couple spots actually look like the top of the strip is separated, and it's just going behind it..

I often find the trim strips loose. To keep them tight, remove the screw and inject an water-proof adhesive into the screw hole, then replace the screw.
Corrosion on the strips is also common, most likely the result water getting behind the trim strip.
It's mostly a cosmetic problem unless rot occurs behind the strip.
Keep the screws tight and sealed.

Thanks, kinda what I thought, though it does look like in some places there is a pathway in at the top edge of the strip. Will keep sealing the screws...
Do the strips come off easy or are they glued on besides the screws? I would like to remove and repaint mine. But haven't tried taking them off yet.
They are probably stainless steel, since they're much like the ones offered for boats. Mine has a little corrosion on 'em, but so far I've held off on polishing them up instead of paint. Just don't want to introduce another linear element. The corrosion might stem from the dissimilar metal aluminum vs. stainless...

Hi Cory. I put some siliconized acrylic caulk in the hole and replaced many of the screws with about 1/4" longer stainless screws. My '99 had just zinc plated steel screws that were rusty. The stripe is aluminum. I bought some from the factory to cover the two joints in the ABS corner mouldings in the back. Newer rigs come with that cover, which is cosmetic. RonB

it seems to me that those screws probably go right into the floor ply (or some support of it). mostly i was worried about what pathway existed through that seam behind the strip....
not entirely sure, but i was hoping it was built like this, then the top seam shouldn't matter...
