Great idea!
Upper New York is a beautiful part of the country and may be a worthwhile road trip for any members on the East Coast looking for an LD. When I was a small child, we lived in Rome, NY for a couple of years as my father was stationed at the old Griffiss AFB, now closed down. Yes, I was an Air Force brat!
That's Mike Lewis's rig. He has it listed in the classified forum with lots of pictures.
Gotcha, went live to the rest of the world now I guess.
Sometimes the single threads can be convenient though, just have to go to the end to see what's new on the outside.

Upstate native here, born and bred. For sheer beauty and lots of history the Finger Lakes Region cannot be beat. :)

"DONT ASK THOUSAND QUESTIONS IF YOUR PICKY PERSON KEEP LOOKING"
Maybe people ask too many question about why the engine and transmission have already been rebuilt when it has only 60,000 miles on the odometer. It's a lightweight, E350, which is easier on the engine and transmission than the heavier E450s.
It might have been used to pull an overweight trailer or toad, no other good reason why both the engine and transmission would be worn out at 60,000 miles, unless it wasn't maintained.
The exterior looks OK, as much as the low resolution photos allow judging.
The new tires are an off brand.
It must have been stored for long periods, considering how low the miles are and that it is 27 years old.
I would want to know a lot about who rebuilt the engine and transmission and then have it inspected by a
knowledgeable Ford mechanic.
Lots of questions to ask, I guess I'm too picky .

I could be wrong, but I get the feeling the owner of that rig might have had an encounter with a certain someone from this group (she bought a rig recently) who was getting tutored by the group on how to shop for an older Lazy Daze and she drove him over the edge. :D
Would have liked being a fly on the wall during that encounter!

"I could be wrong, but I get the feeling the owner of that rig might have had an encounter with a certain someone from this group..."
---
Maybe so, but, IMO, a smart buyer has a responsibility to exercise thorough due diligence when checking out a purchase of any type, and particularly when buying anything with wheels! If this translates as "being picky", count me among the tribe!
However, a buyer (and seller!) needs to make distinctions between minor cosmetic or easily/inexpensively remedied issues and potentially serious, big ticket deal-breakers that compromise the sale value; both sides need to know what to look for, how to realistically assess condition, and at least a ballpark concept of the amount of work, money, and the skill set needed to effect the fixes. And this knowledge is particularly critical if one intends the rig to be one's home!
Additionally, a buyer (and seller!) should be aware of the advantages, disadvantages, and "quirks" of a particular chassis/engine, model year, and floor plan; questions on those topics have been asked and answered many times on this forum (and on its previous incarnation) by experienced, savvy people, and there's no shortage of all sorts of information from additional web sources. It can be tedious, time-consuming, and often frustrating to research essential information, and I do understand the "want it now" factor, but not being appropriately "picky" (and/or relying on a seller to candid and straightforward about a rig's issues) is a lot more likely to result in a buyer's walking away with a wart-infested POS rather than a cream puff.
So, be "picky", buyers; be "picky" about the right stuff, but be "picky"! ;)

Talk about a red flag! In what world is a $9800 purchase such a casual thing that one can afford to make it without being picky?

So right you are Joan. Anyone willing to put their stuff on the block to be sold has two options. Sell it or trash it.
Buying a pig in a poke is not advisable and any seller not willing to answer the endless barrage of questions from potential buyers has no business selling
anything to the public.
I think the Grinch had the right attitude. More sellers need to grow a thicker skin or take their junk to the dump.

And I bet it was fun getting that full size furniture through the door. Stuff sure limits space too.
I didn't inspect this vehicle but I did meet them and sit in the chairs when I was interested in the chairs...(Ekornes, which are very good for the back, seem well made and pretty $$...)... The rig wasn't up for sale at that time, though there were hints that it would be soon... while the price may seem high (not my rig, not my call), I'm pretty sure this is a well maintained rig and if the price eventually got to an agreed upon number, would be great for someone...it actually made me think about that size a little more (and possibly even that unit if/when became available), when I was considering what I wanted...It could be worth a look if one is interested and sellers willing to negotiate (not my call there either...). (I have no connection to the sellers and at the moment don't even remember their names, just didn't want it poo-poo'd too much ;) ) ymmv...

I think that Sherry's post refers to the 2005 23.5' FL listed for sale in Puyallup, WA; that's the rig with the Ekornes chairs. The "other" 2005 is a 26.5' RK in Glendale, CA.
Each of these rigs is priced very "optimistically", but, I agree that this is an issue to be negotiated between sellers and buyers.
As always, YMMV. 😉

"pic 3 looks like the roof panel might be sagging"
----
I can't say for sure, but the "sag" view looks to me like the AC and the light/shadow on the ceiling in the rear.
Unless a photo shows blatant/obvious damage, it's impossible (IMO) to assess the actual condition of a rig from a set of photos, particularly if the photos are few and/or not high quality. And, the condition of the coach is only one element to consider; photos don't show the condition of the engine, the appliances, the rig's systems, etc.
There can be many reasons why a rig doesn't sell; it's hard to speculate because each situation is unique. I believe that the only way to accurately assess the condition and value of a potential buy is to thoroughly and critically inspect every part of the rig, ticking off each "box" of an exhaustive checklist. Photos can be excellent "sell/buy" tools, but they only tell part of the story.
As ever, YMMV.
I hear ya. That's why I was asking if anyone had actually seen it. It's a little too far for me to kick the tires. Thanks

Yes, but can they swivel, so using the flip up table is practical?
Our 2003 FL's stock barrel chairs barely fit, especially the rear chair.
To provide space for the front barrel chair requires moving the driver's captain chair all the way forward, then tilting it forward.
Our 1983'FL's barrel chairs were smaller and fit fine, unlike the wider chairs used in the 2003 FL.

We're substituting basic office chairs as a trial run, since I already have them. (They first need replacement gas cylinders, which are on the way...) Still on the fence about the casters -- may use 'gliders' instead. They're compact, comfortable, have arms if you want them, tilt/recline, and adjust height for dining or relaxing. We're also considering a small storage ottoman for footrest, and also dog perch between front seats while underway. It'll store under the bed, in the shower, or "mostly" under a chair when not needed...

The price is roughly equivalent to 1 month rent in SoCal, these get purchased by someone to live in full time on the streets and parking lots of LA. It's a step up from a tent and the number of people living in these arrangements has exploded the last few years. The parking lot at my work houses 2 such rigs including an 80s Lazy Daze. I also pass by another Lazy Daze being used to live on the streets in the Lincoln Heights area, though that one is kept very clean and presentable and I believe actually runs. The one at my work does not and is surrounded by a veritable garbage dump :(
The price is roughly equivalent to 1 month rent in SoCal, these get purchased by someone to live in full time on the streets and parking lots of LA. Sad but true. It's bad up in the Bay Area as well where rents are much higher.

Not being a CA resident and not to seem insensitive to the plights of the homeless, but I'm surprised local officials tolerate such situations. They often deteriorate into very unsanitary "homes".

This thread has been a great idea (much better than having individual threads for each ad) and I really appreciate it but it seems to be getting a little unwieldy. I find myself looking through all the pages (up to 5 now) to make sure there are no repeats. Sometimes I'm even successful! ;D
Is there some way we can delete old posts that have already sold? Or is there some other format that may work better?
From the other boards I've seen, it hasn't been an issue leaving them. Typically, if something is sold, the listing says so or it comes down. I try to (usually)only post things that are listed in the last few days. If they are relists, it just shows they are still available. The way I look at it, you only ever need to look at the last page or so of this thread and consider the rest out of date. The FWC camper thread like this was several hundred pages long...
Might consider shorter side bar conversations(i actually enjoy these, but it would be cleaner), but this is pretty simple.

I tried inquiring about this, and haven't gotten much response. The price went from 12, to 15, to 14k in 3 days. Also it says "overhauled " but she told me the overhaul cost 3k at a Ford dealership, so I'm assuming it was more like a blown head gasket repair than a full engine overhaul... She said her parents, who own the coach, would not know what was actually included in the work, and therefore wouldn't be able to confirm it...

The seller didn't bother to show off his masterpiece, the rear door.
I can't imagine how to do this cleanly without significantly upping the weight in added steel, to make up for the removed structural strength.
The G-30 chassis barely has enough capacity to carry itself and the coach, much less any type of off road toy.
Another dream gone astray.
Larry
"Needs... a leaf spring added to each side of the rear suspension." Minor detail...
If that's a lift gate out back, that probably weighs more than the motorcycle does.
Also the math is interesting: Purchase for $X, spend $4000, sell for $3500 after five months.

It was an option for a few years. The roof over the upper bunk would rise to allow more room. I believe the walls were canvas. The "pop top" added complexity and weight. A couple years ago when we were still on the yahoo groups there was a posting from someone that had purchased one used. If they made the transition to this group perhaps they will speak up.

There is one that has come to a couple LD Caravan Club's GTGs, in the last year. It is still intact and useable.
The pop top is similar to a VW Westfalia Bus conversion, with a fiberglass cap, located on the roof. It pops ups, adding another sleeping position for two.
The sides of the pop up are canvas. The pop top is entered through an oversized hatch, located at the front of the coach, where the normal escape hatch is.
Of the three pop tops I have seen, only one had good canvas, the others were rotted out, similar to what happens to many pop top camper trailers.

Stay away from any 350 V8 that has been used for towing a Jeep, the engine is way too underpowered to this without extreme stress.
Gave towing a quick try in our 1983 LD and realized immediately that is wasn't a wise thing to do.

It's 23.5' Front Lounge with an entertainment center, a rare RV. I have never seen a 23.5' with one.
The downside is the only sleeping position would be the pull out couch, a tight fit for two friendly adults.
Not the best combination for anyone but a single traveler, who does't have relatives or friends to travel with.
Larry
A 55 gallon oil tank, in '98 with a 14, 050 GVWR would have to be a 26.5. The 23.5 had a 37 gallon tank, and entertainment center wasn't an option. I also believe the diesel engine was only available on the E-450 chassis. Not sure exactly what floor plan this one is. It should also have two propane tanks, 17 gal. each. one for the 'house' ,the other one for the generator. RonB

Are you referring to the 1998 FD in Tejas ?
1998 LAZY DAZE FRONT DINETTE
If so, it is positively a E350, 23.5" FL, it looks just like our 23.5' FL, even the same color.
If it doesn't have entertainment center, what happened to the overhead cab's side windows?
After being inside of hundreds of LDs, I have never seen an LD, lacking the bunk's side windows, that didn't also have an entrainment center.
Adding an entertainment center wouldn't be a big deal, if LD wanted to. Not installing the side windows is slim possibility too.
LD has been known to very occasionally do something non-standard.
Too bad the seller didn't bother to include a few more photos.
Larry
Hi Larry. The one in Texas only had one interior picture. Identical to the 4th picture in Marion. There is a Marion near Austin Tx. The Marion one came with an Emerald II generator. Wish I had the micro quiet on mine. The awning is non standard. The phrase "Built on a one piece aluminum airplane meter body" doesn't convey anything to me. I've never heard of the E-350 referred to as the 'Super Duty'. I thought that was what would become the E-450 chassis.
I've been through Wichita Falls, Texas. Could be the same coach. A garbled description. Not diesel, 11,500 # GVWR, and maybe a bed in the cabover with no windows. The E-350 came with a 10 gallon LP tank, usable 8 gallons.
It is really confusing when some sellers don't really know what they do have. RonB
Speaking to one detail, my 2000 23.5' FL is on an E-350 Super Duty badged chassis.
Chip
If it doesn't have entertainment center, what happened to the overhead cab's side windows?
Good catch, Larry! I didn't notice the lack of side windows and was wondering why you thought it had an entertainment center based on the one interior photo. Those two listings are definitely the same coach, though.
"It is really confusing when some *sellers* don't really know what they do have."
Not only that but it really rankles me when an OWNER does not know or care to use the appropriate designations, i.e. Island Bed (IB) in lieu of Walk-around bed . Even the greenest of neophytes should know at a glance that if there are no side windows on an overhead cab it's either a 30' or shorter coach with an entertainment unit. Using the Mothership's designations would eliminate a whole lot of confusion! ::)

I guess we forget that, on the forum, we are dealing with a more informed group. Many buy an LD on whim or inherit one.
When they dump it, they don't know much about the details.

14 MPG LOL they must only drive it down very steep hills!!
Volcano is in the Sierra Foothills, in the gold country.
The possible reason it might get such good mileage is that it has a diesel engine…?

"The possible reason it might get such good mileage is that it has a diesel engine...?"
That is indeed possible. The diesel is the infamous 6.0L Powerstroke, and this, Ford's attempt to replace the venerable Navistar engine was still plagued with issues in 2004. An engine with some potentially costly repairs that are almost inevitable before 100,000 miles, it earned the nickname "Powerchoke".
I loved my 2005. Strong, reliable, strong, and getting over 16MPG.

Just FYI I have been in contact with the seller of this coach. I am fairly sure this coach was owned by a member of the Yahoo Group until his passing last year and was his second LD. The seller (late owner's son) has been working with Vince at LD to make sure the coach systems are all working. It has been stored indoors since the owner's passing.

After much discussion, while the 2013 30IB would be a perfect coach for us a couple of years from now, for the next few we need something smaller that can frequently serve as a short-stay, no toad RV that doubles as primary transportation. From our previous ownership of a 30IB, it's not ideal for that particular application. And yes, while priced higher than the calculator shows, the seller does have it listed as "negotiable" and it includes some nice options. I think it would make a great coach if someone is looking for a 30 footer. Trust me, we thought really long and really hard about it.
Michelle

Yea most dealers seem pretty high on asking price. But should be willing to negotiate.
We bought our Lazy Daze from a dealer who had taken it in the previous day as a trade. The disadvantage to buying from a dealer is that nearly everything the smiling salesman tells you isn't true and one can't get any factual information regarding the past problems, service, etc.
The advantage to buying from a dealer is that making a ridiculous low-ball offer isn't personally offensive to the seller, it's just rejected. The dealer isn't emotionally involved with the rig. They just want to make money on the sale. That allowed us to start the negotiations from a better position and end up at a more reasonable final price.
I always feel kind of bad making a low offer to an owner who loves their rig or just has an inflated idea of its worth...

Personally I am a fan of the classic paint scheme. Not that I dislike the new one. But if I had a choice it would be the classic.

Yes, I prefer the traditional striping as well but the newer models have some nice upgrades I wouldn't mind having!

Tolleycraft is a well made boat, made in Washington. Stout, handlaid, seaworthy hull. I believe the factory was in Bellingham, Washington before they went out of business about 1997. 26 feet is a nice length to trailer.
Lazy Daze?

With a single Mercruiser 350 and a heavy 26 foot hull, it likely gets about 1.5 nautical miles per gallon when it is on plane.
Not too good for a Lazy Daze.

The problem with Lazy Dazes of this era is too small an engine.
A 350 V-8 is too small for this Lazy Daze.
It does look water tight.

The 2007 E450 has a GVW of 14,050-lbs.
In 2008, the E450's GVW was raised to 14,500-lbs, the result of a new rear axle, which finally included a parking brake, replacing the driveshaft parking brake..
The 2008 E450 also had improvements in the steering and brakes.

We saw this odd rig at the Morro Bay State Park, several years ago. It looked extremely overweight, the coach is constructed from the remains of an aluminum boat. It's only a F350 chassis.
The man who owned it wanted to carry his motorcycle, bikes, kayaks and to tow a sail boat, all at the same time. When we saw it, there was a big, multi-purpose motorcycle in the rear area.

That's a first.
Can't remember anyone here replacing a 6.8L V-10 engine with less than 150,000 miles.
I would want to find out who rebuilt the engine, was it a Factory crate engine or something from an independent rebuilder?
A Factory remanufactured engine would be my choice unless it was rebuilt by a high-end, well known shop.
These engines are fairly complicated and required highly skilled technicians to rebuild.

notice the front cap no longer has a window. Repaired leak? It is a very nice looking Lazy Daze with a ton of interior upgrades. Not sure about the fire place though. If it is well insulated enough it might be nicer than the factory heater at the cost of storage space.
Looks great! I would want to weigh it before getting too serious. Renovated RVs tend to gain weight, on a chassis that may be already challenged.

In pre-90 LDs, the front windows almost always leak, covering the opening with sheet aluminum is often done to cure the problem.
The 'fireplace' is an electric heater with fake flames. It only operates when shore or generator power is available and is not a replacement for the furnace. It's a gimmick. A $15 cube heater will be just as effective.

Just went a looked at this one. It's not in the best shape for the price. I guess that's why it's been for sale so long. Needs a good buffing. Looks like a small leak from the window above the couch. Missing the swivel chairs. But at least it doesn't smell bad. It's a year newer than mine with less than half the miles. I wouldn't trade them lol.
According to the VIN (and the grill design), this is a 2002. It's also way overpriced, even if it were in pristine condition. YMMV, as always.

It may be a 2003 LD, built on a 2002 chassis, It once was common to see the year of the coach and chassis off a year.
It's a good $10,000, or more, overpriced.

Interesting my 2002 doesn't have the large plastic drink holders on the dog house. Wish it did. It would be nice to have that storage.

I think the number 1234 is suppose to be the mileage ... just a guess. With an asking price of $7900, could be an interesting project especially if there weren't any leaks.

Interesting that the manufacturer of this Lazy Daze is listed as Fleetwood! :o
Renting out one's LD may work for some; not for me. I have turned down requests from family to "borrow" it; directed them to El Monte, Road Bear, and/or Cruise America.
YMMV.

One would really wonder how often the oil was changed on this low mileage LD. Probably the original tires and batteries too. Also wonder how often the generator, engine, transmission, and A/C were exercised over the last 15-16 years. This low mileage LD could be a jewel at the right price or it could be a mechanical minefield. Perhaps the eventual owner will update us after the purchase.
P.S. Three (3) LD sold prices at PPL. Just FYI ...
26' 2000 Lazy Daze $17,995 09/2016 103,467 miles
23' 1997 Lazy Daze $14,995 01/2017 144,934 miles
32' 2009 Lazy Daze $48,000 04/2017 23,600 miles
Theres a lot of stuff that would have to be done to make sure it was road worthy.
As I have watched the "For Sale" postings of pre-owned Lazy Daze RV's, it seems that the asking price is inching up as compared to 2-3 years ago. Of course this observation is simply "off the cuff" and it would take some statistical work to really verify this opinion. Clearly, the demand for all RV's continues to be strong. So it makes sense to me that that any quality RV made only for individuals that also has a long waiting period from order to completion would have a direct impact on the pre-owned market. So it goes.

Does this seem about 10k too high in price? I've seen most in this age range in the mid 20s.
It's always a challenge trying to discern a fair market price for a used RV and especially difficult for a Lazy Daze. I'd want to know if the roof sealant is original, any leaks, age of the tires, and any repaired or un-repaired damage. I want to test every system to make sure they are in working condition to include the heater, A/C, refrigerator, Microwave, water pump, water heater, stove, propane tank, solar panel/system, etc.). I want to test all the truck related systems to include the A/C, 12V outlets, and so forth. I especially want to do a detailed review of the maintenance record and compare it to the recommended Ford Service Manual. I'd want to know where this 15 year old LD spent most of it's life to included method of storage. I'd look for rust.
If this particular 2002 RB received good marks in all these areas, then it might be worth the higher end of the price range for this age LD. I'd agree with the OP that the price seems to be higher than comparable LD, but I don't know if it is $10,000 more. So what to do?
If it were me, I complete a thorough inspection one way or another, then study the results for at least a day or so and then make an offer lower than I wanted to actually pay knowing there might be a counter offer. As we know, few sellers expect to get their asking price and so they've used a similar strategy to set their price.
Does this seem about 10k too high in price? I've seen most in this age range in the mid 20s. Am I kissing something special?
For some reason people really ask a premium price up here in the PNW. Maybe because of the low supply up here. I have seen some priced even higher then that one. Paulsbo RV has a 2003 for $45000 right now (been for sale for a long time).
I agree with Traxless. Make sure you complete a thorough inspection to help make an educated decision. As was said before though, upon reading the complete ad, this one appears to have some current issues as well as past owner issues that I would be very careful about.
Just my thoughts, Paul

Only 5 photos, disappointing. 132k miles and used to tow a toad. I would negotiate On price for cost of a new trans, cause I would not expect much more work out of this one. The asking price seems to recognize the high mileage, but to my mind not enough.
That's what I was thinking. Thanks

Just curious where all the "younger" LDs for sale are hiding.
I'm sure someone on this forum knows the actual number, but far fewer LDs per year are produced than were in the past. I know I've seen a post that listed the year when production was cut. Given that there are fewer produced it only makes sense there are fewer late model used units for sale.

People tend to love their Lazy Daze and will often hold onto them for years. The only advice I can offer is to keep checking here and Rvtrader and Craigslist. It can sometimes take a while to find your rig. Good luck with your search!

I think you're joking, but, IMO, there is no way that this ad is 'valid' on its face. If the unit in the ad is really a 2007 and the $6000.00 is not a typo, three possibilities come to mind: 1) It's a click bait scam. 2) The seller is a dolt. 3) The rig has beyond major issues.

Yes, I was joking. ;) Besides the ridiculously low price and incorrect tank capacities, two red flags popped up for me; the fact there is only one photo and there is no contact info other than a c/l email address. I'm always wary when I see that combo.

Yea looks like a 26.5 RB to me. I don't know of a 31' RB. But ad does have a phone number and most fake ads don't.
The 1995 30.5' LD was on a Chevrolet G30 chassis; the LD in the ad is a Ford, so, if it's a 1995, it's probably a 26.5' RB with a 460 engine and a GVWR of 11500. Many ads offer incorrect information, some as an attempt to scam, others because the owner isn't aware of what s/he's selling; this appears to be the latter, but who knows?

What a nice coach!
I have been thinking about looking for a newer one like this. If I hadn't just booked a room by the Pomona RV show/Lazy daze factory, I might have drove the other direction! ;)
I'm striking out on Lazy Daze in the $25--35K range. I have been looking for a while, but the logistics of long distance buying is depressing me. :P
I am giving myself a week to regroup and really decide if I want to spend the $$$ for an almost new one.
I am visiting the factory tomorrow, then off to the RV show on Thursday. I guess I should see what has changed in the RV market, as my head and my heart still belongs to my beloved 1986 multiplan...
Kay,
Enjoy the show. I really enjoyed seeing the fifth wheel toy haulers. The problem was that they have gotten too darned heavy, too long for almost all the places we like to stay, and they are built to survive the trials and demands of days, not years. The build quality was very poor and the price tags were very high. Then we looked at Sprinter based platforms and were appalled at the ridiculously low OCCC on almost all of them. The big Tiffens were nice, but I don't want a motorhome that costs more than my house (nor can I afford one), nor do I want a coach that can't fit in 90% of the places we like to camp.
After two days of examining everything of interest at the show, we were back at the Lazy Daze factory with a new appreciation for the build quality, carefully thought out improvements over the years, lack of flash and glitz, and solid workmanship. LD isn't perfect, but they are better than anything else we had seen. We began looking at Lazy Daze models from the 2002 era, then 2008, then hoping for a more recent model. We even bothered people we met in campground and offered to buy their rigs. When we found the one we now own, we ended up spending way more money than I had allotted for the Lazy Daze, but looking back, I'm glad we did. We are heading out on a ten day trip on Friday.

I would be very careful with this one. The description context is VERY suspicious.
A friend once found her own rig being advertised for sale by a scammer. They had stolen her pictures off the net and put in their own text and basic contact information. They had even included portions of her yard, so there was no doubt that it was her rig.
Watch for the same rig to show up being advertised in various cities.

Yea Judie it’s always good to use caution with Craigslist ads. But at least the phone number on this one matches the location of the ad. And it has a California plate on it.
If this 2001 is a 'V-8', it's a diesel. If it's gas, it's a V-10. I, too , would be wary of this ad/seller.

I thought so too! I talked to the individual and he was selling for his Grandparents that have owned it since new. I saw some issues (and not many pictures) on the passenger side just above the outside storage door under the dinette. He sent more pictures and it was heavily damaged (aluminum side as well as door and frame) but he said "the door still opened". Also, he just noticed the center rear window was cracked.
Interesting......

That's a prime example of how far a misspelling can go (or be taken advantage of)!
It is my belief that this product (Duct Tape) was originally used to seal air ducts... remember those things running under your house to carry hot air to your registers?
I once rented a house which, initially unknown to me, had no ducts at all. It was necessary to heat the entire crawl space in order to heat the living area. Warmest floors I've ever experienced! ;) We didn't stay there very long! >:(

What do you suppose the seller was smoking when s/he wrote that ad?
Chris
I’d say if the roof is in decent shape, it would be a deal for the right buyer. Tarps are very common in the PNW when storing- it doesn’t always indicate a problem. Heavy winter snow and rain during months when it isn’t in use means problems can go undetected until it’s too late. Tarps are cheaper than roof repairs.
Up here that RV would be a screaming deal.
Just saw the ceiling around the escape hatch- yeah, probably a considerable project in that environment. Still, hate to see an old Lazy Daze go out like that. Some people just weren’t taught to take care of their toys when they were kids.
The right buyer could do wonders for it... or turn it into a meth lab.

I am really really liking this coach. It is what I am looking for...a clean well cared for babydaze!
I am just worried about the age, as I am not as handy as some.
I feel the coach is 4-5 thousand overpriced. It looks like for NADA values, they put all sorts of "standard" features as options.
I'm going to check it out. Haha I can always hope!
That one looks nice! Look close under the detailing job, it is so shiny I would be wary of the old floor wax treatment. Low miles. It’s always a matter of judgement how far off NADA to go. I have always sold my RVs above that guideline. Let us all know what you see!
Kay,
It does look nice but as Paul said it looks too shiny....even the engine compartment. Just make sure to inspect closely. It may check out fine and the price seems fair if it is a top of the line unit. I would base that on history, documentation, inspection and discussing with the owner. I would be willing to pay premium for a unit that all checks out and is in fact “top of the line” because they are rare.
Good luck and yes, please let us know!
I spoke to the dealership, and If I was to buy from a dealership I do think this is a good one. The salesperson was very helpful and forthcoming, however not very familiar with Lazy Daze. The coach was a trade-in on a car, and it is a car dealership.
The Dealership did send me the carfax, and it's a one owner California based coach.
I was told the previous owner had the coach repainted. (?) However there are not records or any service records available as the previous owner misplaced them all as they recently moved from Northern California to Southern California. Also the tires were just replaced with to me a off brand I would have to check out. Any one familiar with Westlake sl369 all terrain tires?
I think I am going to pass, only because it is also for sale as a "buy it now" on Ebay.
My next step would have been to have a pre purchase mechanical inspection done. Without service records I feel that this would be doubly important to do, even before I drove from northern Nevada to see the unit. The sales person did say their independent inspection and dealership inspection both checked out fine.
However it is a eight hour drive from here, and I worry if someone hits buy it now on e-bay after I pay for an inspection, booked a motel I'll be one sad panda haha
I do think it looks good on paper, and I wish I was able to bring myself to just buy it now myself, as I'm tire of looking!
Kay,
I would definitely be leery. For one the reason for the repaint and secondly no records. If you are interested I would talk with the owner (they should let you if there is nothing to hide). Also, you can make a purchase offer contingent on it being inspected by you or anyone else. You are not that far away so they should be willing to work with you.....and if not, walk away.
Remember, Everything happens for a reason!

A new paint job on one that age is reasonable unless it was garaged which most aren't.
Jim
Yes, but I would be curious as to why it was re-painted?
Paul
If the 2003 FL checks out as being as clean as it looks, 28K isn't a bad price, it looks new.
Extra clean rigs demand a premium, used LDs are becoming rarer each day, due to the nearly ten years of reduced production numbers..
It does look like has been recently detailed, I'm surprised they installed a new TV
Looking at the white paint around the perimeter of the engine compartment, it is not weather-stained like most rigs of that vintage.
I suspect it has been stored inside most of its life, a good thing.
The only specific thing about a 2003 LD I would be concerned of is the loose spark plug issue.
For peace mind, i would have the plugs changed and tighten to the revised torque.
Beyond that, 2003 was good year for the 23.5' Front Lounge.

I can't say what's 'real' and what isn't with this particular rig, but I had never heard of Westlake tires; it appears (to me) that either the dealer or the owner may have installed the cheapest option for cosmetic purposes. And, if the paint job is new, who did it and what did they use? My 2003 is in good shape, and I know there are many rigs of that vintage and older which look great and are in top mehcanical and cosmetic condition because they've been well-maintained, but I tend to be very skeptical of potential 'warts' underneath the shiny stuff when something is 'too pretty'; YMMV.
This link is to a broad selection of LT load range E tires on Tire Rack:
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?zip-code=&width=225/&ratio=75&diameter=16&rearWidth=255/&rearRatio=40&rearDiameter=17
Despite the appeal of lower price, I would avoid choosing any 'closeout' tire model because you are far less likely to get 'fresh' tires!
"but I had never heard of Westlake tire"
Google shows them as being sold at Walmart and Amazon.
Amazon.com: Westlake - Tires / Tires & Wheels: Automotive (https://www.amazon.com/Tires-Westlake-Wheels/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=n%3A353609011%2Cp_4%3AWestlake)

"I didn't read any of the reviews, though."
---
Reviews on any item, service, or commodity can be helpful, of course, but (I believe that) reviews on tires for our LDs can be 'misleading', primarily because most reviews of the appropriate tire application and size, LT225/75R/16E, are usually written by owners of pickup trucks or much lighter-weight vehicles than the 14050 or 14500 pound GVWR E450. Even though the tire size and load range may be the same, a heavy vehicle is going to put a lot more stress on the 'light truck' tires' sidewalls than a pickup, SUV, or van that uses the same size and load range. A lighter vehicle is likely to experience much more tread wear than the sidewall stress that affects the longevity of RV tires, particularly when the RV's tires are run overloaded and/or underinflated.

Very much so agreed as for condition and age.
Sorry, I was responding to JCT but for some reason I cannot get the quote to come up,
Paul
On the surface, the asking price for this rig is at least $10-12k too high, IMO, but the mileage shouldn't scare off a potential buyer *IF* the rig's engine, systems, and components have been meticulously serviced and maintained and the accrued miles have not involved 'boulder jump' roads and/or towing, particularly of a heavy vehicle.
The V-10 is a strong, reliable, durable engine; some go for 200k miles and more with few problems, again, *IF* everything has been diligently maintained. If this 2011 checks out and the owner is willing to negotiate a reasonable price, the rig may be well worth consideration.
YMMV, as always.
Not saying it isn't worth consideration but I would definitely negotiate with the high mileage in mind. Based on the informal survey we did some time back, 5-7K miles per year on average seems to be common. Of course, how those miles were actually spread out and how well the unit has been maintained is a large factor.
Looks like this coach is on a dealer lot so one may not be able to get that information. That would also account for the high asking price.
All I can say about this one in Baltimore is hmmm . . . .

I hope the 'OBO' is valid because (IMO) the rig is priced at least $10,000 over what it should be. Low miles can be a plus, but a 12-year-old rig with only 20000 miles translates to about 1700 miles per year, i.e., a lot of down time. This rig may be a good deal if it has been well-maintained and checks out and one can negotiate a reasonable price, but I would have post-purchase funds available for deferred or 'inactive time' repair and/or replacements.
YMMV, of course.
