Title: Screen door latch
Post by: colddog on January 02, 2017, 12:22:53 pm
As luck what have it the screen door latch has failed. (using the true and tested bungee cord  keeping closed method at this time)    Two questions.  1.  Looking for a direct replacement - can anyone direct me to a place?  2.  Maybe an improved version not so easy to break part.

Thank you,

Glen

Replacement is here. Please note the fact it says Designer means it is really cheaply made. Amazon.com: RV Designer E285 Black Screen Door Latch: Automotive (https://www.amazon.com/RV-Designer-E285-Black-Screen/dp/B000BRJTZE)

I believe it is illegal to manufacture a durable product in the RV industry.

"...I believe it is illegal to manufacture a durable product in the RV industry..."

The simple fact that it is plastic has made me very cautious as to how I use this latch. No slamming allowed.

I try my very best to bring the two doors together and gently activate the latch. That being said...Its time to get a back up.

Easy does it.

Kent

Done deal...mines on its way.

Thanks Jim.    <sigh> I agree.     I would have no problem paying more for an item if it I can get my money's worth.

Put the new latch on order.

Because we had cats, I installed a pair of screen door closure springs:

RV Screen Door Closer Kit - Camco (http://www.camco.net/product/rv-screen-door-closer-kit-10208/)

....which close the door hard and fast. No problems with the latch through several years now, so I think it is pretty sturdy. Consider it a sacrificial item that will break before you destroy the door by walking through it in a rush!
