I just retired and purchased my first LD. I have been looking at mostly older models late 80's early 90's 22 footers so I know they are old and there will be issues. The one I purchased is in good condition for it's age . So here is my question since I am a newbie to RV rigs. I have looked and driven mostly 80's LD and the braking systems in all of them are weak. The one I purchased has sat so I know there is air in the line but will take it in to have everything check, not sure if it has disc brakes in the front. If not would I get better braking if I chance out to disc if the fronts are drums? All I know from reading my original manuals is that the power steering pump and right next to the brake unit so I am guessing I have a Hyro-Boost Brake system. Also I just moved to North County San Diego the San Marcos area. Can I take the LD to any shop that does brakes or does anyone know of shops that they can recommend. Year of the LD is 1989 Chevy 350. Your 1989 LD has disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear.
It has a hydroboost brake booster, powered by the power steering pump.
Our 1983 had decent brakes, after a full rebuild.
Do have the brake lines inspected for rust damage and consider replacing the flexible brake lines, they have timed out, if original.
