Title: Two useful items
Post by: stillfreefa11ing on October 14, 2016, 09:25:08 pm
Hi all,

I am appreciative of all the knowledge in this forum  I don't have much info of use for the non-newbie community except for these 2 items.  I hope someone else can find this useful:

1)  To get stuff like hair and gunk out of the shower drain I recommend fish tank planting tongs - basically 10 inch long tweezers
I bought mine at a store, but this is an Amazon link to something similar

Amazon.com: Fluval Flora Stainless Steel Planting Tongs - 10.63-inches: Pet... (https://www.amazon.com/Fluval-Flora-Stainless-Steel-Planting/dp/B004H1MV5A/ref=pd_lpo_201_lp_t_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=6AXAZ2R0FERNJC5YVPVV)

2)  There is a 12-volt plug in in the cabinet near the TV.  To protect the plug (and plug-in), I bought a bird cage feeding (for suet or seed block).  Again I bought mine at a store, but this is an Amazon link to something similar.  I just needed to use the wire cutters to make an appropriate sized hole in the back.  It fit over it nicely and nothing could crowd it.
Amazon.com: Birds Choice Suet & Seed Block Cage Feeder: Patio, Lawn & Garden (https://www.amazon.com/Birds-Choice-Suet-Block-Feeder/dp/B007MRH2I2/ref=sr_1_7?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1476494257&sr=1-7&keywords=bird+feeder+cage)

Enjoy RVing!

Stainless steel mesh drain screens are indispensable (IMO) to keep food particles, hair, and general crud out of the grey tank; they're cheap, easy to clean - just whack them against the edge of a plastic-bag lined trash can and scrub them with an old toothbrush when they need it - and available in hardware, home improvement, and other stores. I (and many other people here) use them in the galley sink, shower, and washbowl. One might be pretty surprised at what the screens trap that would otherwise end up stewing in the grey tank! Amazon link to one choice; several others.

As ever, YMMV.

Joan, which of these strainers did you actually use on your LD?

Chris, the sink strainer example I gave above wasn't the best, that's for sure!  Sorry!

The stainless steel strainers that I use are from Danco; they're nominally listed with a 2 1/2" diameter, but they're a little closer to 2 3/4". The little goop-collecting "well" of the strainer is about 1" across.  They're called "lavatory strainers", but fit all the sink, shower, and washbowl drains. Sometimes the strainers are available on a 2-item card, other times, sold per item. Here are two links:

DANCO 2-1/2 in. Lavatory Mesh Sink Strainer-88820 - The Home Depot (http://www.homedepot.com/p/DANCO-2-1-2-in-Lavatory-Mesh-Sink-Strainer-88820/203675133)

Amazon.com: Danco 88820 2-1/2-Inch Lavatory Mesh Strainer, Stainless: Home &... (https://www.amazon.com/Danco-88820-Lavatory-Strainer-Stainless/dp/B000DZD1AS)

Wayfair might carry them, too, as well as other places. I didn't find them at Lowe's the last time I looked, but that may have just been the case at the Lowe's I went to.
