Title: Parking brake reservoir fluid
Post by: Leland1 on July 09, 2016, 03:15:01 pm
Can't find the post that talked about lube points -- and Larry mentioned the brake reservoir.

Couldn't find anything about the type of oil to use:    engine oil, brake oil, trans oil?     Thanks.

You want to use automatic transmission fluid Mercon "V".  Should be filled to top of reservoir opening.

Checked mine last week.  Fluid looked a little burnt or dirty.  Does anyone know if the fluid should be changed or just filled?

While there is no specified change interval, periodic replacement would be a good idea if you can remove the old fluid.
There isn't a drain plug and there isn't much room inside the filler hole to stick a tube down into the reservoir, that would be used for pulling the old fluid out.  It's a really tight area to work in.
To ease filling, use a pump than fits in a bottle of trans fluid. It take very little to fill the reservoir.

Thanks Larry,
I think I'll leave the fluid alone, for now.  If my transmission fluid looked the same as the fluid in the parking brake reservoir, I would definitely  know that it was long past due to change the ATF.  My 2004 LD has just 23,000 miles on it.
